May 12, 2008 -- State Representative Lance Kinzer (R - Olathe), has filed for re-election to the Kansas House. Rep. They have two children, both of whom attend Olathe Public Schools. Michelle is a teacher in the Olathe School District.

Rep. Kinzer is Vice Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, and also serves on the House Taxation Committee, the House Federal & State Affairs Committee, and the House Rules Committee. He is the Speaker of the House's appointee to the Kansas Criminal Code Recodification Commission.

Rep. Kinzer has been a consistent advocate for limiting the size and scope of government. Rep. Kinzer has also been awarded the Guardian of the Taxpayer award from the Kansas Chapter of American’s for Prosperity, and has a 100% lifetime rating from the Kansas Taxpayers Network.

Commenting on his decision to seek re-election Rep. Kinzer said, '”It is a tremendous honor to serve the people of the 14th District in the Kansas House. My family first moved to Olathe in 1979, I have deep ties to this community and care deeply about its future. With that future in mind it is imperative to recognize that our state is facing significant fiscal challenges that will require vigorous leadership to resolve. Everyday Kansas families make the tough choices necessary to live within their means. The failure of our state government to make these same tough choices is simply unacceptable. The result has been that for fiscal years 2008 and 2009 our state government will spend $816 million more than available revenues. As a member of the Kansas House I have consistently and aggressively advocated for policies that would rein in spending and restore fiscal accountability to state government. Continuing to work for government that is both responsible and accountable remains my foremost goal.”

Rep. Kinzer went on to say, 'I also believe that the state government also has a vital role to play in defending the core values that are necessary prerequisite to a healthy society. Promoting the right to life, preserving of the institution of marriage and the protecting all citizens from the effects of crime are among the core functions of government. We must also face squarely the coarsening influences of gratuitous violence and sexual promiscuity so common in our society today. These influences degrade our community and impose tremendous social cost that we all must bear. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss these and other important issues during the coming campaign."

Rep. Kinzer is a graduate of Olathe South High School, Wheaton College (Ill.), and The University of Kansas School of Law. He served 4 years on active duty as a Captain in the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps. He is currently a partner in the Olathe law firm, Schlagel Gordon & Kinzer, LLC. Rep. Kinzer is a member of Olathe Noon Rotary and of Redeemer Presbyterian Church. Rep. Kinzer served as Chairman of the Olathe Republican Party from 2001-2004.
