2007 Kansas Budget Detailed
Among the most important responsibilities of the legislature is setting the annual budget for the State. The FY 2007 budget just passed by the legislature calls for over $5.3 billion in “general fund” spending, and roughly $11.9 billion in “all funds” spending. According to the latest estimates, general fund spending for FY 2007 is expected to exceed revenues by $223.4 million. I voted against this budget for the simple reason that it spends more than we can afford. In order to provide a more detailed picture of the Kansas budget I have attached a document that breaks down exactly how much we spend, what we spend it on, and where the money comes from. (Special thanks to Rep. Melvin Neufeld for allowing me to make use of this presentation). This document also provides information on a topic that does not get the attention it deserves; ever growing State debt. In 1998 State debt was slightly more than $1 billion, for FY 2007 is has grown to just shy of $4 billion. Simply put, State government in Kansas is not living within its means. I ask for your support as I continue to work to rein in the growth of government in Kansas.

Merry Christmas from Lance Kinzer!
Dear Friends:

During this Christmas season it is only natural to reflect on the many things for which we have to be thankful. For Christians chief among these is the incarnation of Christ, the seminal event in all of human history. That the Lord of Creation became a man is a source of unfathomable wonder. That he reigns now forever at the right hand of the Father, a source of unspeakable hope. Michelle and I wish each of you a blessed Christmas.
